Project Freiraum
How much can free space, physical or mental be influenced, changed or extended by artistic individuality and cultural diversity?
The artists of the Masala Movement are dealing with this question for quite some time now by turning outside walls into a large canvas in cooperation with local artists.
This live art event which already took place in Cairo,Thessaloniki and Kabul offers a visual & audible experience and creates space to meet different individuals for creative and intercultural exchange.
Our respective countries of origin, as well as street art and urban music are the main factors which have influenced our creative work and our multicultural existence. It is exactly that shared background that connects us personally and professionally, even if each single person has found his or her own areas of interest and ways of artistic expression.
It is Masala Movement’s ambition to create a sustainable platform that allows artists from all regions to live and express their intercultural competency, passionate professionalism and healthy idealism to the fullest extent.
“FREIRAUM was a very successful project and the cooperation with the Masala Movement was pleasant and professional.”
Dr. Friedrich Dahlhaus, Director of Goethe-Institut St. Petersburg (former Director of Goethe-Institut Cairo)
“The cooperation with the artist was very satisfying, fun and beneficial for both parties. The outcome with its colourful design and images is impressive. This impression was confirmed by people that were passing by while the art work was still in process. Many times it lead to interesting conversations between those pedestrians and the artists.
We wish great success to the Masala Movement for making more such innovative projects happen.”
Karl-Heinz Thalmann, Direcotr of Goethe-Institut Thessaloniki
